the main advantage for the C preprocessor, is that any machine from 200core enterprise CPU to embedded 1-core stuff has ports of GCC(and c preprocessor) so that anything in pure C will work for decades due compatibility and open-source(C11 is now widespread enough to have headers for that). I don't write open source headers in some exotic, commercial language to distribute to a niche community that rejects open source. It could make sense as some over-arching enterprise make system for big companies that have lots of closed source C code but not for open source/enthusiast software development where code must be portable.
