Tech: slow distributed databases and global warming
Useful for ransomware developers and money launderers

Other possible uses:
Public p2p stuff -- no privacy in blockchains since it's a public transaction ledger
Making up a bullshit tech startup and getting investor money

Overall, way overhyped.
