javascript is absurdly bad.

you visit some small site and bam! you've already downloaded 2MB of "libraries" like jQuery that waste your CPU cycles for some syntax sugar bullshit created because javascript is shit to begin with.

web apps like google docs are slow and have poor user interfaces.

javascript has been wasting millions of CPUs cycles every hour of every day with its inefficient bullshit.

and now it's considered a mandatory "technology" for programmers.

please tell me I won't have to use javascript if I want to get into the computing business. I'm too young and enthusiastic to dare envision such madness.

i'm a CS student, spending lots of time on fundamentals like avl trees, gates, IEEE floats, etc. and I kept being told I have to be enthusiastic about "emerging technologies" like javashit if I want to ever have any chance in the market.

why don't these hipsters understand that a good language like C, scheme, etc. doesn't get invented in two weeks by mozilla as some bullshit toys, that it takes several years of development and by people with experience, insight and talent.

I've been trying to do ok in university which I think is reasonable since lots of jobs expect CS degrees. although I have met self-taught some people with great programming jobs without any kind of high education, including within some big-name computing companies.

maybe when i'm done with my first year or so of CS i can start to have the skills needed to do research. apparently one has to focus on some specific domain, e.g. compilers. I guess the trick is to read lots of papers then try to come up with soemthing that improves on them ? Or do you mean like working doing grunt work for researchers so I can try to work my way up the ``totem pole'' ?

This website uses javascript even. This is how embedded javashit has become in the web. I have even asked the admin of this website to remove the javashit, but he refuses as he believes javascript is very important. I dont understand why a website like this, just a simple bbs, requires javascript at all. Expect this bbs to go web 3.0 like 4chan and fast.

Given that the language is so miserable to program in, it should be able to execute faster, alas that is not the case. Especially annoying is the fact that languages which are more pleasant to program in and execute at least an order of magnitude faster exist.

Nevertheless I see no reason not to execute JavaScript programs. If I were to take such a principled approach, I would also not execute programs in C, because C is a shit language too.

Most large applications are written in C++. gcc, LLVM, Chrome, Firefox, (Open)Office, Photoshop... all written C++. Most C programs are very small; kernels written in C are the exception that proves the rule.

I think C++ is favored over C for big codebases because big codebases demand the sort of enforced organization that C++ OO constructs can provide. You certainly can do OO, RAII etc. in C but there a benefit to having a standard implementation provided by the language itself, because then there is only one implementation that needs to be learned. Compare how many people "know" C++ to how many know GObject, for example.

Proper function overloading would also be nice, but _Generic macros are okay.
