Enrolling into Russian University requires completing 11 years of school education, passing all the useless humanities exams, like reading Pushkin and Dostoevsky.
To enroll into American Uni, like MIT, it is enough to pass SAT, which you can learn on your own, outside of school
Alas I cant get into American University, because you need to be a citizen to get education credit, otherwise it would cost $144000, which is a fortune in Russia, where human life costs less than a $500.
Dear Americans, please bomb Russia, till it changes college admission rules to be more liberal

canadafag here I had to do 13 years of schooling before entering university and i also had to do some useless humanities chit-chat
at least they don't have the murrican university-debt scam as bad here as in murrica
and i also had to do some useless humanities chit-chat
American SAT includes only math and critical reading/writing, which is much simpler and more logical than for example Russian tests, which require rote memorizing a lot of linguistic definitions together with verb inflections. That is in addition to the requirement of citing a large body of useless russian literary work, like Pushkin, Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. In addition, Vladimir Putin's government also tries to introduce Bible back to public schools.

Whats so great about university anyway? Isnt it all just a bunch of usless bums who dont want to work and invent a bunch of crap to tell idiots bullshit these days? You can pretty much study and build almost everything you would want to today in your own home if you have the will to read some books.
yeah there has been lots of ink this year about how putin hates gays
Another theory could be that putin doesn't care either way and it's really the population that is still very homophobic (compared to other countries). Can't really blame them either considering what they've been through during the past 90 years.
This thread probably should have been in /lounge/.

>>4 Yes. 12. But you can pass SAT, without visiting school at all, whilst in Russia failing final exams or dropping out is equivalent to death sentence. And you can just do final exams, without visiting school for 11 years.
>>7 In Russia you need a diploma to get a programming or other engineering job. It is of no difference, what kind of diploma you hold (even if it is some history or psychology diploma), because it serves just to prove, that you can finish something under stressful conditions of a uni.
as i've said before not a single reasonable company gives a shit they do however keen interest in your github acc just setup a vps with git-daemon with your 1337 cod3s and make sensible post on habr. problem solved. guaranteed.
I don't visit habrahabr.ru it is for bydlo and requires invites, while I don't have any programmer friends or friends at all, because I haven't attended university, where one makes such friends.
America, I love you! Please destroy Russia for all good there is! Russia is evil and stinky country, which must whipped from all maps!
As clarification (for US companies the B-W corridor, anyway), it's not just ``your github page'', it's ``things you have done''. It just happens to be that everybody and their dog confuses personal projects for github these days. I put some stuff on repo.or.cz on my resume, and a while back, several of my projects were just distributed through ftp. Nobody has ever asked me ``Yeah, but what about github?'' during an interview.

>>23 Are you talking about the legal definition of "unemployed" in the U.S.A.? Or about people being unemployable? 'Cause I know more skillful people and up-to-date on news and technique than most drone workers that do not have work gaps. Companies should just hire by testing the aptitude of the individual, and how they work well with others. Plus, why do you think people use a functional resume these days? Work gaps should be seen as just gaps. Not everyone works for corporations. Work without an agency or company is considered unemployed in the US. So that rules out nearly all individuals that are self-employed, with no brand of their own.

They require BS degree and academic credentials. I can't get these in Russia, because I have no attestation of high school graduation and have zero interest wasting 3 years to get it.
it's much worse than that. i'd say it is destructive for any kind of organization and ultimately for society. >>41 ``war and peace'' is the most graphomaniac piece of maculature i've ever laid my eyes on. absolutely disgusting. quite unremarkable alexey tolstoy looks like a saint in comparison.

Nope. I'm looking for money to buy a phony diploma. The only problem is that Russia also has this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employment_Record_Book which I must fake too, which is much harder: I need to carefully think through my cover legend and then produce fake company seals and signatures in the ERB.

Nikita, as much as I hated school, it's finally over and I got into college. You could have done the same thing. You could have been more patient instead of simply dropping out of school and blaming the Jews.
Someone might accuse me of ``overvictimizing'', but keep in mind Russia is a developed country. I was born in a country where passenger trains are still a fantasy. I'm pretty sure you can lead a decent life in Russia as long as you're not a spoiled brat.

I don't care about Russia, because I dream about moving to USA.
The only thing I need is a uni diploma or at least 11 classes of school, which are required for any Green Card type.

And Russian writers are all retards. For example, "Dostoyevsky disliked the academy, primarily because of his lack of interest in science, mathematics and military engineering and his preference for drawing and architecture."
That is one less reason to learn the mendacious Russian history, because it would be useless and even harmful in America. For example, Russian history postulates that it was USSR, who won WWII, while in reality only America did it through landing and liberation of Europe, when USSR was losing the War. Basically, USSR failed terribly, even with all the lend-lease and tech-transfer from America.

This thread is the perfect example of a wikipedia education.
A planned biopic on Tolkien is slated to cover his brush with life as a WWII code-breaker, a role he ultimately didn't take up.
The proposed film will attempt to show how his service as a soldier during WWI and other key events led the fantasy author to write The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I am Ukrainian and you should know what this video is about. Its very said, but the government use some provoker young people that enter the demonstration with a single goal - start creating the situations that provoke the conflict between people and the police (like you see on the video), later the government use it as the excuse for using power, the provokers then escape and ordinary people are under special forces attack. And the goal is achieved. Have a look at a guy who tries to stop provokers... he understand what is happening. Yes, this poor guys (I mean police) are JUST students, used for this dirty game and to make the effect even more bright, they were even not provided with the police shields. The people who provoke conflicts are brought with the buses from other regions in a very organized way, they are hundreds and people try hard to find them and stop their actions. Don't believe this, we are normal people who want peacefully change our country for better. Support us in your countries! (its not like you see in this specially designed video)

>>89 There's a Military Word for it, it's in the leaked CIA manuals, and recently used in one of the news organizations that covered the Arab swindle/blackmail operation from the NSA. The natural English word is sabotage or subvert. I know I read it, but I am having issues recalling it. Some essays talking about the Problem > Reaction > Solution = Profit technique also have it.
