Gamer identityoof
there's more to right-wing ideology than radio and TV, read booksThe book-reading intellectuals are a tiny minority of the right-wing, which promotes anti-intellectualism and hostility to academia and education system.
it's a bunch of people who want your money -- they're not all the same company, but it's still consumer garbage and just leisure, not something meaningfulGamers know that, that why piracy exists and microtransactions are ridiculed. No one wants to pay extra. I only play free or pirated games, i never pay for in-game virtual stuff. Many games depends on minority of "whales" who spend thousands on microtransactions.
imagine basing your existence around living for pleasure and doing nothing of useNot really. If you have a hobby like chess, you'll call yourself a chess player despite chess being 'useless' pleasure.
probably counting angry birds on phones,Mobile gaming is more advanced than you think, with rise of processor power it has mobile versions of every genre.
but I doubt the average "gamer" is more than 25Old-school gamers and retro-gaming skew it somewhat, but gaming penetrated most age categories(e.g. my dad plays web games obsessively)
you know, the degenerates who spend all their time playing games, and base their whole personality and identity around itpathetic
ideology and politics and activismThats is actually also escapism, especially for people who have nothing to lose.
but rather than facing the things you want to fix, you opt out and delve into fantasyThe problem is facing the things i want to fix will not fix them forever and will have to fix them again and expect additional problems to fix.
acceptance of defeatPathetic.
Like this board is a form of electronic escapismDiscussion is not escapism. I am here to try and get other people interested in politics, specifically the things I believe in. You have the ability to not only improve your own life, but to make a positive impact in the world around you. You can't fix everything 100%, but you can at least chip away at big problems that require a lot of effort.
Huh? No, it's for people who stand to gain from change. As you think. The broad socio-political processes are rarely at the whim of an individual. Your idea of being "part of a movement", "political activism" are escapist activities to pass time as a hobby.
Pathetic. Its depressive realism. I don't think i can become a social chad or a successful beta-pillar of the community. I prefer living online vs participating in the real world.

Discussion is not escapismWell it is. You don't discuss the concrete problems, just abstract ideological points and ideas that you hope to refine or refute. Its really just a philosophical debate using broad and vague sentiments.
improve your lifeIdeology doesn't do this, your own efforts of self-improvement do. Politics doesn't improve your lifestyle, in fact becoming a political activist of any stripe will put a toll on your psychology and health.
positive impact in the world around you.Impact requires resources. Empty words, promises and speeches cost nothing.
chip away at big problemsLets be realistic, i'll have to dedicate lots of time and resources for a big problem and these problems will reduce my quality of life worse than 'unhealth escapism'. Especially when you consider the perilous status of 'political activist' in a society that tracks all your activity and speech. "Free speech doesn't mean speech without consequences" is a great illustration of current affairs.
