>>24I did that, or at least in the process of it. I moved from a city of a few million to a town with 40k. I've been here for a year learning to drive and now I have a car and will move to a very small town / rural area shortly. I have a long-running online business, I doubt you'll find good paying desk work in a very small town so remote work or a reliable business is the way to go. I look after animals in this small town of 2k pop when the homeowner goes away in summer, it is about 1.5 hours drive from a reasonably large city and the kind of town I want to move to. But I don't think I can afford a nice piece of land yet so when I go back there next month I'm just going to look around to see if any rentals come up.
Do you have the money to buy a house or some land to build on? It can be hard to find rentals in small towns since you will be dealing with the question of why you are moving to a small town (is it to cook meth?) and only some landlords will understand. Of course that doesn't apply if you have a family with you, but that is a question you'd have to deal with if renting as a single male so you are better off contacting private landlords (not agencies) who might understand why you are fleeing the city.
