The CV-fucking and other shitty zoom-zoom behaviors are because of crappy advice from career counsellors who told them to get into FOSS to get recognition; and that's absolutely a problem. But the recent breaking changes in the *nix desktop ecosystem is absolutely just X11 dying and it's appointed successor, Wayland, originally made by the same people who did X11, is just not up to scratch, even being written in C; it still ends up being a crap system.
