I was under the impression T460 and T470/480 (non s) frames were almost identical? What gave you this impression of flimsiness? Cheaper plastics? Cost reductions? Is the keyboard at least still alright?
Everything goes to shit, but at least they retained a full sized RJ45 port, non-soldered RAM and hot swappable batteries. Upgrading the screen one day for a 4k isn't a big problem either. They still come with a minimum 3 years warranty and some mil-spec that sounds like total bullshit, I'm not that naive so let's not comment about that. Buying a used laptop was out of the question as people usually watch porn and come buckets all over their keyboard. T480 seemed the less shitty option in Lenovo's current line of products.

The pi 4b is already usable as a machine, and you can buy a cluster for half the price of a ThinkPad
