In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6. "What are you doing?", asked Minsky. "I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-tac-toe", Sussman replied. "Why is the net wired randomly?", asked Minsky. "I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play", Sussman said. Minsky then shut his eyes. "Why do you close your eyes?" Sussman asked his teacher. "So that the room will be empty." At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

This is just stupid, tic-tac is easily solved completely with brute force perfectly. Training dumb nn's helps nobody nothing, it's a dumb pointless activity. It's like being a great architect, but instead of architecting, you spend your time in your room jerking off to some porn and calling that an achievement in architecture. Plain idiotic.
Closing his eyes, implying it's zen like, with some deep point to jerking it instead of advancing the science, is again, just dumb and stupid and worthy of dump stupid long fucking rants.
