Yes and no. 100% compared to 50% full doesn't neccesarily mean a 2x increase in additional weight.

Why? Because the additional weight comes from the electrons. But the presence of an electron is only true when there is a 1, not when there is a 0. So depending on the ratio of 1's to 0's, weight may vary.

This is also why it's cheaper to ship a blank HDD from newegg, but it's more expensive to ship it back for RMA. To save money on RMAs, people normally blank the HDD first.
