Completely shit game, horrid quality, the controls are terrible and when are these retarded fps developers going to realize that setting mouse sensitivity should be in fucking numbers and not a fucking slider?
I still cannot find an FPS game that can match up to the experience I had playing CS:S 2008-2010. So much fun.

CS:S is fun, but the bomb mode (the entire point of the game) gets boring quickly. CS:GO is like CS:S with a fast paced BLOODY DEATHMATCH mode, but you can't use grenades on that mode for some stupid reason.
Urban Terror is a Quake 3 based game that fills this void with CS-like gameplay. Sure, the graphics are a bit too simple/old if you're used to modern games, but the game is still fun and it has an active community. Please give it a try.
Red Eclipse is a Cube based game with monochrome monsters that can wallrun and use silly plasma weapons, kinda like OpenArena. I'm impressed by the quality of the engine. Latency compensation is better than expected, matchmaking is not a pain in the ass, collaborative real time map editing (!) and sensitivity and many other variables are settable the console.
Of course, those are my opinions and you shouldn't take them as absolute facts, but as recommendations based on your complaints. You might think Urban Terror is boring or you might dislike the Cube engine.

CS:S used to be fun back in the day. 1.6 even more. Never played GO. My internet is bad and I have a shit ping so I refrain from playing this kind of game nowadays

>>5 I've never played CS:GO with real people. The "extreme bots" level of difficulty is pretty much appropriate.
I liked the way lighting looked in the old CS 1.6 engine. It had a natural and pleasant feeling to it. Modern graphics is too stimulating.

Has anyone here ever played World of Padman? It's such a fun game but it lacks the attention it deserves.
Blue cartoon characters shooting each other with goofy guns. It certainly isn't a masterpiece but it's a fun alternative when you're tired of classical ``serious'' shooters.

I thought that OpenArena was a Q3A clone. I thought the physics and keyboard inputs were exactly the same as Q3A.
shit. action quake was pretty fun though because of fucked up physics.
cube
great engine, shitty gameplay. no big expectations for red eclipse
warsow
cool shaders bro
ut99
should be opensourced by now for long. good entry-level fps. real man choose q3:cpm / qw

I see all these games that try to recreate the Quake model of deathmatches, where you just have to be the guy who shoots first, and the silly physics rules are there to help you move faster if you're really clever at exploiting them, so you can get where you're going before your enemy does, and basically everyone just has to be more clever than everyone else at exploiting physics glitches and the developer is fine with that.
I don't see enough games where the whole focus is on causing fun explosions and chaotically wrecking everything and throwing people around with ragdoll physics. I can play this way in Skyrim by myself (unrelenting force + dual wield staff of fireball) but it would be way more fun in a game specifically designed for it. Modern games are shit because they don't cater to my preferred style of play.

For you people who like Red Eclipse, what servers do you play on?
Because Julian Gollop himself failed to advance the genre.

>>22 Oh yeah? Then why does everybody play quake live and not cpma or qw? And where's zombiemod or deathrun or surf in your quakes?

>>26 There are minecraft minigames that do that. I remember seeing a wizards mode where groups of wizards jump really high and shoot magic and some classes of wizard shoot explosive magic that destroy the terrain.

>>29 This could work thanks to voxel technology. Minetest could be the terrain voxel engine for such a game. I'd like to get started on a bunch of design documents but I have no idea about the specifics of the game system (the game rules) that they had.
