a random thug on the street might kill you for wearing the wrong clothes.
"Abe Lincoln may have freed all men, but Sam Colt made them equal"

so a random thug won't risk his life to rob you, if you are armed. Although a group of thugs will, producing bigger and bigger groups, ending into governments and wars between them. So our whole civilization starts from a war and peace always rests on weapon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pax_Romana).

I think the ideal solution would be some robotic government, punishing bad people for organizing to oppress others.

This is nearly the first time on /prague/ that I wholeheartedly agree with every word you said.

Actually, a cybernetic government has been tried as far back as 1971. It was CYBERSYN, a project of British scientist Stafford Beer and ran Chile. It performed really well - too well to be tolerated by the powers that be. But a society controlled by computer programs might indeed be the perfect society. Not necessarily, of course, but then again human-run societies are necessarily shit.

So I would definitely bow my head to a robotic government if it was organized on more or less fair and transparent principles. Alas, the world is still ruled by power-hungry apes who want to rob and dominate us.
