users script or not user script

I think the user script guy is right. Let the user customize how she wants. The only thing is that you should make her task easy and provide all the documentation, if needed.

why didn't you post it in that thread then?

too bad some user script addon was found to be malicious

have fun trusting a million 3rd party browser add-ons and scripts that can and will get compromised or sold to bad people

this is an old article but this kind of thing still happens to this day:
https://www.pcworld.com/article/2089580/spammers-buy-chrome-extensions-and-turn-them-into-adware.html

basically: a ``free'' extension gets popular, then a criminal offers to buy the extension from the developer, then the criminal puts malware in an update, giving the users ransomware, some MITM shit, etc.
then the original developer pretends that it was ``accidentally compromised'' even though it was intentional

I can't even post in the right board: I thought it was /prog/ here. So don't ask me to find a 5-year-old thread in this mess.

You're supposed to write your own user script, not blindly use some third party add-on.

why not just have websites have all the functionality built-in?

imagine if you went to a car dealership and they sold cars that lacked wheels, engines, and doors. and they claimed that it was up to the person who bought the car to provide the rest of the parts. what a stupid idea for software usability.

Only thing that would have made your post worse, is if you used food analogies
You can't just compare a site having less bloat to something completely unusable

Maybe it's the same guy, but I was thinking about this argument: https://dis.tinychan.org/read/prog/1537317324/15
