Why do people care about the future?

Name: Anonymous 2018-10-14 7:03

Are they just NPCs or do most people really think they'll live on after death to observe the planet's future? Maybe I'm autistic, but I just can't see why the future, in general, should matter to me or anybody else alive.

But even on this board I see people posting "we should do this or that to improve things in the future" and I'm like "whatever fag" but others actually engage in the conversation as if it matters. What's going on? Can anybody here who cares about the future explain their reasoning?

You're the NPC. Caring about the future of your species is an ethical standard shared by most of humanity(at least the civilized ones).
All political decisions and programs, long-term planning above individual scale is about future. Psychologically, you're disconnected from shared social experience and alienated from the decision-making process, so you take a position of indifference and denial of belonging to the species.
In effect you refuse to discuss future because you're resigned to be an unimportant and insignificant part of it, by your own limited worldview(that essentially reduces to "I'm an insignificant NPC that can't possibly influence anything, and why should i even care if future doesn't include me?").
