Britain Hates Free Speech

Here in the UK we don’t regard “freedom of speech” as an inviolable right, more as “the ability to incriminate yourself via social media”.

In this case some guy wrote about how he committed a possible crime, (harassing someone in the street because she was a muslim). The police saw this and thought, maybe we should investigate this. He was arrested so that he could be interviewed under caution. I really doubt he’ll be charged, but don’t you agree it’s a good idea that we can investigate idiots based on what they say publicly?

If you threaten the President of the US in a tweet, you could end up arrested in the US. Why do the Americans arrest people for twitter comments?

I doubt there’s a country on the planet where it would be impossible to arrest someone for a “twitter comment”. So the UK does it because everyone seems to agree there are lines one should not cross. The only question is where you draw the line.

Peralta’s felony criminal case is part of what civil rights campaigners say is a disturbing trend of police and prosecutors targeting activists for social media posts, arresting users over innocuous political messages that constitute free speech.

The only places on this earth where there is free speech, are the US and places like Siberia / the Sahara / etc. Britain is certainly not a free speech country.

I never said that. But there are known actively malicious Tor nodes.

Also, Tor is like dial-up, but VPNs are fast. And many sites block Tor. Even VPNs are banned from some sites, but not everything.
