GIVING UP ON AMAZON SHOPPING BY CHOICE

Name: Anonymous 2016-08-29 11:04

I had to abandon Amazon as an online shopping destination because I couldn't stand dealing with fucking Indians when I wanted to return something. Seeing a name like Daneesharma Prikha responding to my support request just makes my blood boil. Anybody else? Me, I just can't stand it.

You get what you pay for. Amazon also doesn't use air conditioning in their warehouses in the summer, nor heating in winter. There's literally paramedics on site (paid for by taxpayers) because they're running on razor thin margins despite being so big.

You're information is outdated by several years. Amazon reluctantly did install huge air conditioners in all warehouses to keep them below 90 degrees in summer, due to all the exposes in the media and also because the products in the warehouses all got damaged causing immense bitching from 3rd party sellers using FBA. You'd be surprised by how many things can't handle prolonged exposure to 105+ degree heat -- glues melt, chemical bonds break, serums liquefy, plastics smell, etc. This issue almost destroyed amazon's plans to create a dominating factory to consumers' door fulfillment network, but since 2014 it has largely been resolved.

This is why I only shop at Walmart. I much prefer Mandingo Jefferson helping me. And when I need to get high on legal drugs like nutmeg, I go to Whole Foods, where the pleasant Ms. Divina Wind-Song Moon-Child scans my items.

just lol at amazon still not turning a profit after almost two decades of business. I'd rather buy stock in a vending machine.

They have foregone direct monetary profit to build a massive treasure trove of behavioral and other user data that is invaluable. Half the households in the USA subscribe to Prime, the majority of packages shipped each day are from Amazon, and the majority of high-load systems run on Amazon data centers. This information gives them almost godlike powers to control commerce. Also, they have turned a full profit for the last few quarters.

to whom is that data valuable besides other retailers (like Amazon itself)?

Half the households in the USA subscribe to Prime

obviously not true. not even half the households in the USA computers other than their smartphones.

Amazon is a waste of money and self-respect, use this instead: http://www.bookbutler.com/

Does it work on Kindle, though?

just lol at buying books in general. you either find it on gen.lib.rus.ec, #bookz, torrent sites, or worst case scenario, go to a library.

if you can't use the internet to dl the book you're looking for because it's some fictional novel crap, then you are a faggot that deserves to be stoned to death.

Amazon Prime now reaches nearly half of U.S. households
Okay so nearly half. Most estimates put it at around 38%.

to whom is that data valuable besides other retailers
Why does that matter? Amazon is a retailer. If it's logistics data can allow it to consistently get packages to customers within 24 hours at a low cost then nobody will be able to compete and they will completely own the eccommerce industry. Also, every company that runs a warehouse or deals in any kind of logistics would want that data, because it is so comprehensive and at such a massive scale. You forget that Amazon also operates the largest enterprise cloud in the world and controls a significant portion of all data collection in the world. Amazon is gathering massive data on data itself. What is your precious Walmart doing lol?

Ecommerce != Logistics. If that's your argument, then UPS and FedEx would supposedly be sitting on a goldmine of data. But they're not because the data is useless. The only thing that can be gained from it are the best flight/road paths which can be computed without any data by ancient graph search algorithms from the 1960s.

You forget that Amazon also operates the largest enterprise cloud in the world and controls a significant portion of all data collection in the world

If Amazon were actually peeking into people's AWSes a la PRISM, they would be sued for far more than what can be gained from looking into them. Again, the only possibly marketable data here would be how to efficiently place data centers around the world with respect to ISP infrastructures, which is an already-solved algorithm.

I bought my item via Prime on Monday morning. It's Wednesday night and it still ain't come yet. I wondered why it was taking so long then I realized the carrier was not a regular one but rather "AMZL US", so much for Amazon being logistics gods.

Ecommerce != Logistics
Should we pause for a second to think about how retarded that statement is? Amazon controls its own fulfillment network from factory to ship/plane to warehouse to truck to door. By moving billions of items through this chain every year it gains an enhanced ability to fine-tune its complex operation in a way that a new competitor cannot match. Amazon will soon be able to collect a million potato peelers from a factory in China, ship or fly them to the USA on its fleets of ships and jets, split them into hundreds of shipments to its thousands of warehouses around the country, and ensure anybody in the USA can order a potato peeler for *factory direct pricing* and get it the next day. But according to you that has nothing to do with logistics.

If Amazon were actually peeking into people's AWSes a la PRISM
No, they are on the forefront of how to transfer, store, compress, search, and organize data that is gathered.

>>15
Yes, that is the point of gathering the data. To improve their service and make it consistently improved. They are becoming logistics gods through the intelligent gathering, learning, and applying of data but they are not there yet. But you know how if you do something ten million times a day you start to get quite good at it? And if you record how you did it each day then go over that and think about how to improve it for the next day, you get even better? That's what Amazon is doing. Already you are much more likely to get your package in two days using Amazon than any other logistics company and that is improving.
b-b-buh tbh amazon isn't logistics company smh wtf lol
That's where you're wrong. Amazon is interested in the logistics of getting the package to your door, not the service of doing it. They use literally every shipping company if it is likely (according to data) to get that package to you faster.

just stop shilling for Amazon just because you probably work there. one day they will fire you and hire a pakistani in the same name of "efficiency" and I doubt you'll carry the same tune then.

I remember shill jobs in Skyrim but I forgot the rest of the memes.

If Amazon fires me it must be because their data has shown I am not worthy of generating enough profit for the company. I certainly wouldn't blame them, as they are using data which is pure logic.

If my wife divorces me and fucks younger hotter guys it must be because her data has shown I am not worthy of generating enough arousal for her vagina. I certainly wouldn't blame her, as she is using data which is pure logic.

Well, of course. Women know when their needs aren't being met. I would hesitate to call that data, however, more like "women's intuition".
