4chan has a new owner "Hiroyuki Nishimura" - Founder of 2channel
Today I'm pleased to announce that Hiroyuki Nishimura, best known as the founder of 2channel, has taken my place as the owner of 4chan.
Hiroyuki is a pioneer in the world of anonymous communities, and can be thought of as the great-grandfather of 4chan. His creation of 2channel in 1999 sparked an era of anonymous-centric web culture in Japan that led to the creation of Futaba Channel, the site that inspired 4chan. None of us would be using 4chan today—or potentially any anonymous image board—if it weren't for him.
I met Hiroyuki in 2011 and we became fast friends, bonding over our shared passion for creating and managing online communities. He is one of few individuals with a deep understanding of what it means to provide a digital home for tens of millions of people for more than a decade. There is nobody more qualified than Hiroyuki to lead 4chan, and I can't think of a person better suited for the task.
4chan sits on the eve of two great milestones—its 2 billionth post and 12th birthday. It has been a great privilege to serve as 4chan's founder and steward for almost twelve years, and I can't wait to see what lays in store under Hiroyuki's experienced leadership.

>>2 Apparently there are two boards called 2ch. 2ch.net owned by a weird shady Philipino-based company named Racequeen Inc. lead by a guy named Jim Wilkins or something. It was taken over from Hiroyuki. The other one, 2ch.sc was made out of spite by Hiroyuki and pretty much just mirrors the content from 2ch.net, probably through a scraper. Jim is the owner of 8chan.
This all makes my head spin or maybe it's just the lack of breakfast making me feel light-headed, but I feel like I just lost my footing. I'm probably going to leave 4chan for good, since I don't want my horrible posts to be datamined by hotlink. I'm probably leaving this place too, since it isn't good to begin with. I'm going to do all my pseudonymous socializing on le reddits.
>>7 Inertia? I'm just kidding myself. I don't think I'll ever find a music board as good as 4chan's /mu/. I can live without /a/. /jp/ I've long forgotten, but the music board I'm going to miss dearly. You may disagree if you wish, but that's why I sticked so long with 4chan.
q&a is starting now. he hasn't answered any questions, only said hello and reposted a strawpoll about his nickname.

OH FUCK HE ANSWERED THE DATA SELLING QUESTION!!!
I'm happy that there is no stupid 4chan users who easily are deceived without any evidence.
First of all, NT technology, which is owned by Jim Watkins, were a hosting company which hosted 2ch.net servers. Also, they provided domain privacy protection services. I used their services. "I" means (Packet monsters Inc. and I) in all later sentences.
One day, their credit card servers were cracked. The 2ch pass service was made by Zero Inc. and NT technology. They secretly stored user’s credit card numbers and users personal information. And, Crackers leaked those information.
I didn't have any access to the 2ch pass servers. And I’ve never known that they stored such information on their servers. After the leaking, they wanted to make 2ch pass again. But I couldn't trust them so that I declined.
And, they were almost bankrupt. So, Jim stole 2ch.net domain and systems. It is what happened.
If they don't tell a lie, they can explain that "Who gave or sold the domain and system to you?" "Is there any evidence like a contract?"
There are no such evidence because they stole.
Actually, I have sued them in Japan. The lawsuit starts on Nov. If I do illegal things, why wouldn’t they sue me? Instead of that, I have sued them because they are liars.

>>32 Presumably nothing, it's just an epic meme that he stole "data" from other BBSs and sold it.
What he should do is can the Google code from the site entirely and use 4Chan's traffic to develop scalable anti-bot tools that don't require fucking CAPTCHA. I mean, it is the perfect opportunity since there is massive and varied traffic and it doesn't really matter if it takes some testing since the site is utter shit at the best of times. Such tools, once perfected, could be released as a SaaS and earn enough money to remove the incentive for jewery.

How can anyone not agree this guy is an ultra-jew? Just a coincidence! It's just a coincidence that 4Chan owners are ALWAYS jews. There's probably nothing about jewish culture that promotes that. I'M AN ANTISEMITE WHY CAN'T I JUST STOP ATTACKING THOSE POOR PEOPLE HAVEN'T THEY BEEN THROUGH ENOUGH WITH THE HOLOCAUST AND THE JOKES ABOUT THEIR NOSES?
seriously can anyone tell me why it would be a bad thing to completely exterminate these demons? Yeah there could be a lot of 'good' people that are jews, but they would get pissed off about all the really bad ones getting killed and would try to get revenge.
>>34,36,38,48 It has nothing to do with 8gag shilling. Jim (the owner of 8ch) was Hiro's partner in crime until their cover was blown, where Jim acted like the saviour who somehow didn't know Hiro was selling user data (as well as mass banning to get people to buy passes, and deleting posts when companies and politicians paid him to). of course it's total bullshit that Jim didn't know about all this. Both 4chan and 8ch are now owned by people who sell user data to data mining/advertising companies. Take off your fucking tinfoil hat, not everyone who says something bad about 4chan is an 8gagger shilling their shitty site.
>>56 And who is going to buy IP addresses and for what purpose? >>57 Those things are worthless.
You do know that 4Chan isn't some underground subversive network, right? Mootberg always folded to literally every information request from corporations and governments whether involving a subpoena or not. Meanwhile, he installed Google tracking software on every page.
Or if you're thinking advertisers would want that data, why? Anybody worth advertising to is already well profiled by multiple data gathering companies all over the web.

>>58 You are incorrect in the way you characterize the advertisers and the trackers. They do not think like you and I do. We see information as a way to gain something more, be it understanding, insight, or to obtain a goal. They seek information as an end in and of itself. They have a pathological need to slurp up as much data as possible. They are data junkies. To them, the quality doesn't matter, only quantity. They dump their data in the pits of their data centers and run the latest data mining code on it, then they go back for more. They are like pigs at a trough. They will gorge and gorge on the food in front of them until they are so fat that they can't move, at which point they get to enjoy the bliss of having it shoved into their mouths. It's almost a sexual drive with these people. Do you think Google operates all these free services just to sell pixels on a webpage? Of course not. They sell ads as a side benefit to collecting all this data.
You do know that 4Chan isn't some underground subversive network, right?
Irrelevant. The question is, do advertisers and governments no that?

>>60 They know that one of the largest mainstream discussion websites with hosting and DNS located in the USA and Google tracking on every page isn't an underground network of cyber-terrorists and ultra-hackers.
You are incorrect in the way you characterize the advertisers and the trackers
No, many companies simply want to gather data to better target ads - there is real money in that. Whatever data can be sold from 4Chan users wouldn't have much appeal to them because it can't be used for meaningful behavioral profiling without some sort of quantum-linguistic AI to process it.
Very few private companies are going around collecting data in the way you say, because the potential of this data is offset by the massive costs that will be involved in accessing its potential. Outside of the military and alphabet agencies (who simply take all data from ISPs, Adobe, Google, etc. whenever they feel like it), the companies with an interest in dealing with mass data won't be buying shit from 4Chan. They either release free tracking tools (search, Flash, Like buttons, CAPTCHAs, etc.) or they bundle in tracking software with your apps. There's nothing 4Chan can give them that they don't already have.
There's really no reason to start worrying about your 4Chan data now. 8chit has once again proven they are the most embarrassing of "red pilled" tinfoils. They started by crying about corrupt journalism practices in gaming websites and then instead of using that attention to springboard into the very real issue of corruption in online media sources (which are quickly gaining on old media as thee go-to news source) they just bitched about "SJWs" in their video games. Now, they are crying about data being sold, but slandering some random jap instead of discussing the implications of companies and he military being able to (very soon) analyze the big data they have been gathering efficiently and build reliable behavioral models and profile people.

Let's say I am a datamining company. With only the text data on 4chan, I can get a general idea of what a number of people are interested in, but I can't correlate it with other posts to get a sense of "X likes Y, buys Z, holds political position A about topic B" because all posters are anonymous.
Now let's say I have a deal with the site administrator. He allows me to get the text data of all posts along with the IP address... or a hash of the IP address. All of a sudden I can gain access to analytical data on millions of people on a top 1000 site. I can know what people like by location, etc...
Now, a clever person might say, "oh, well you can't tie this to me personally without subpoenaing my ISP to get my IRL info." To this, the answer is, "who says 4chan is the only site they're datamining from?" You ever find yourself searching for a product on one site, and then finding an ad for it on a totally different site? Your 4chan posts will be providing ammunition for targeted advertisements.
Furthermore, because 4chan will be generating profit based on number of posters, the smart thing for a profiteering Hiro would be "get more newfags." Suddenly 4chan becomes filled with cancer all for the sake of a few extra bucks. Hiro did borrow money to buy this site, after all.
You're wrong about the rest of the stuff you wrote as well. I don't think you understand a) how advanced and deeply-integrated data mining is with the internet and b) how difficult it is to analyze 4Chan posts and get a sense of "X likes Y, buys Z, holds political position A about topic B" even if you can tie IDs to the posts. Linguistic analysis on a mass scale is extremely difficult.
People with the capacity to do that (or in the process of developing it) don't need 4Chan's pitiful amount of data they can't gather from other sources. You see, by crying about this you are confusing the issue. Your data has been gathered. If you're not taking deliberate and complex steps to frustrate data collection, government agencies and various corporations will be able to build a profile of you. They don't need 4Chan's data to do that.

Indeed such an ability has many uses, including vomiting all over myself to chase away potential predators and securing a paper on fetish porn productions. But I need an ability that will truly set me apart from the rest.
With all that said, my comment to 4chan users is: "I am proud to be working together and a member of the 4chan community, which has been dedicated to the Internet meme industry and anonymous history for a long time."
The barbarians overran long ago, but it is at this point that we must finally acknowledge that the empire has fallen and the world has been plunged into darkness.
