WHY DID ADMIN-NIG DIS TABLECAT-SAMA?

Name: Anonymous 2015-04-06 13:02

Why would the admin here reprogram the underlying operating components of this site and abandon the existing architecture earlier engineered by Tablecat who worked very hard on it (and recently released an updated version with awesome quote backlinks and other features)? I dunno, is it just me or is the whole situation a bit of a harsh "fuck you" to Tablecat from the owner of this place?

Are you kidding? Fuck him and fuck you too, fucker.

Name: Anonymous 2015-04-06 14:27

1) Maybe admin just wanted to use his own software for his own website?
2) I don't like the backlink features on Tablecat. Makes posts look ugly.

Surely you are joaking, >>3-kun.

Pretty petty to take offense over.

Quote backlinks are just a shittier version of upvotes. Please go back to reddit, thanks!

Because it's unreadable Perl? I would want to maintain that shit.

No need to quote >>1 when you are responding to the OP alone.
>>6
Wrong. They simply let you know whether your posting was successful or not.

Kind of like an upvote.

Yeah, kind of. Except not at all.

Maybe you should return to reddit, since you are such an expert on their upvote system and appear to see no difference between that place and /lounge/.

Are you kidding? Quote backlinks, 4chan, Reddit, site features requiring javascript, and you are all garbage!

It's called a fork dude, it happens all the time in the software industry. You don't need to be upset on TC's behalf.

>>4
Surely you are joking Mr. Feyneman.

A fork? An abandoning of the entire code and replacing all of it with code written from scratch in a different language is a "fork"? Face it, admin-nig has declared war with this slight.

Because tablecat's software is unusable and extremely difficult to modify. It just parses everything with regex, and doesn't organize things well. The admin interface was starting to take 60+ seconds to load threads older than a month. That's why I had to force anti-necroposting in the software.

>>17
It's the same language, just a rewrite to use sqlite. Try using his software for a BBS with 60,000 posts. It's shit, it doesn't scale. The only things I used from tablecat was some of his formatting functions, and his bbcode parser.

Basically, you're a retard. The tablecat software I was using was from 2011, because that's the only one that was available when I started the site. I had to modify it heavily to make it usable in the first place, so that fast posting wouldn't just start corrupting threads, and to put in spam prevention (since it didn't have any, at all, not even per-IP limits). If I wanted to "upgrade", he provided no way to convert old threads to the new software, so I'd have had to delete all the threads and start the board again.

Tablecat mainly works on the software for his own use, and doesn't pay much attention to how others use it, and it's clear from the code / his practices.

Will you be posting the source to the new software?

Name: Anonymous 2015-04-10 19:48

>>19
Probably, but as I said, I need to make sure I didn't introduce vulns that could be exploited by looking at the source. I don't have a lot of free time right now, so it will be a while before I can look over all the code properly and clean it up.
