On rules and bureaucracy

Name: Anonymous 2015-04-01 23:12

People are encouraged to think that just because there is a law, the problem is solved. Put a bureaucracy in place, and all will be right with the world. Deep down, everyone knows in their bones that is not how the world really works. Laws don't mean shit, because any person or organization with means and connections can subvert those laws at will. The only thing that might be real is connecting with and being with other people. Trusting them, and having them trust you. But we've poisoned that well. Our "everyone is an aspiring emperor" scam of a culture has made sure of that. We either fix that or remain in the doldrums as a species until we die out.

But we've poisoned that well.
It was good 'til this sudden, unexplained jump.

Ok, here's a new version:

Program in peace.

What you said was so confused that one could not tell whether it was nonsense or not.

We either fix that or remain in the doldrums as a species until we die out
I don't see how we're in the doldrums compared to all other known species-- our self-awareness does seem to make us better than most. First you complain about the "everybody is an aspiring emperor" narrative in our society and in the next breath suggest we must advance as a species, unless we, god forbid, remain in the doldrums. Maybe we need to learn to be happy in the doldrums, maybe pottering around just surviving is what we are destined for. If people were humble enough to pull that off, there would be no need for laws.
