In that case, the two characters come from different fairy tales (although they may have had a common origin). Cinderella's story is "girl endures much persecution, eventually becomes queen for it" while Snow White's is "girl is pretty, eventually everyone who hates her dies" or something. Wikipedia does more justice to the origins and plot elements than I can.
