But yeah when I certified for the Navy work we had to break all out welding practice plates. That weld reminded me of everyone's first few plates lol. When bent they break right down the center. It's due to moving to fast and not depositing enough metal to the welds spine area, that's what I call it anyways. A proper weld should always stay intact, never break down its center and tear one side of the metals being welded off. That's how you can tell the weld bit into both sides deeply. Now.. I know these are supposed to look pretty. But... they need to function for safety foremost. I wonder why he chose to weld just those 4 spots also? Why not weld down its full length again, especially if it broke once already? Why leave that middle non welded. Don't make much sense. I gather that maybe Mark don't weld? And relies on the welders to do it for him? Lastly... if you want something to be strong as possible he should always wrap the corner edges of things, especially lugs like these. A small wrap "collar" weld will basically make something roughly 4 times harder to break. When I had to bend heavier plates at the shipyard with a come-a-long I knew ro weld my pad eyes side, and wrap that collar. Or else that baby would shoot like a 10lb solid steel rocket of death if ya didn't lol. So.. I'm not sure exactly how much of fitter knowledge like this is taught to welders that aren't in the shipfitting realm. Wouldn't hurt for gun welders to learn those simple tricks. I was in Boilermakers Local Number 69 out of Pascagoula btw. Hard work but it payed good and I thought it was fun. Later folks thanks
