Maybe there should be a /news/

It seems like /lounge/ discussion is 50/50 as far as the content. Seems like a weird juxtaposition. Or is that what /prog/ is for?

Name: Anonymous 2017-12-06 7:29

Don't give the admin more shitty ideas.

As if shitty ideas would make this place any worse.

For the record, I like the fact that we have three boards right now. Four strikes me as overwhelming. Three is a Fibonacci number.

We have 4 boards........

Name: Anonymous 2017-12-06 8:15

we don't need a fucking news board dummies

Name: Anonymous 2017-12-06 8:50

Maybe /newpol/ for political-related discussion. /lounge/, /prog/, /newpol/, and /vip/ were the most active boards on world4ch.

Any allusion to /pol/ is just asking for trouble. /news/ makes more sense because that's how it was originally done, and it doesn't set a precedent that way.

Name: Anonymous 2017-12-06 9:22

>>7
/language/ was more popular than /newpol/, which is to say not very. We don't need any more boards here since we are lesser users altogether than /language/ had and, in fact, we need one less board: /prog/ should go.

I'm well aware.

The issue with having so many boards is that it stratifies the userbase. The four (three of which are listed) boards we have no obviously aren't of the clearest distinction, but the delineation is clear enough that having them exist as separate boards is apropos. Look at 4-ch. Dozens upon dozens of boards, and the only with a justifiable niche just happens to be the only active one, DQN. Having that many boards is paralyzing. Users see all those boards (many of which overlap each other in topic, as with the three language boards or the technology boards and internet addicts) and decide it's not worth their time, because there's vary little that can guarantee the consistent activity and growth of those boards.

I saw and I disagreed.

>>9
/newpol/ is both News & Politics, hence the name.

>>10
/prog/ needs a cabal of programmers constantly feeding into it actual programming topics.

>>13
I agree on 4-ch, that's too many boards.

way to misread the post.

>the 3 users that we have need 1 board each
>they can't change the board they post on

Ignoring the fact you aren't quoting anyone, yeah, it's kind of stupid how post /lounge/ stuff on /prog/. I'm not the person going to those threads and posting /lounge/ over and over again, but it strikes me as odd that, well, they don't post on /lounge/ for /lounge/ stuff. My assumption is that they've probably never posted on /lounge/ and think that simply because they came to the site for /prog/, that's the only active board. It's like with 4-ch and /dqn/, except the opposite is true in this specific case.

Name: Anonymous 2017-12-29 14:16

>>20
that's the only active board.
They both are around the same in activity. /prog/ only seems more active then /lounge/ because it gets spammed a lot more by one or two autists, but in reality they're both the same.

>>20
I'm not the person going to those threads and posting /lounge/ over and over again
That's because people keep posting off-topic non-programming related threads that would more appropriately have a home on /lounge/.

Name: Anonymous 2017-12-29 19:39

>>22
I understand what you're trying to do, and I'm not disagreeing with you, but have you ever considered that they may in part not be migrating to /lounge/ just to spite you?

Name: Anonymous 2017-12-29 19:52

>>23
Sure, that's probably the case. Another thing is the admin could help by having dis.tinychan.org default to /lounge/ instead of /prog/ as well.

Name: Anonymous 2017-12-29 23:43

>>24
That doesn't sound like a bad idea, actually, but I think that sets a weird precedent, since it was ultimately /prog/ that was responsible for this site's existence, isn't it? When you post on /lounge/, we're doing it in the context of having come from a certain /prog/ in one form or another. /prog/ is basically why this scene is thriving, why this forum more than any other is so active.

Well it was progrider closing that was responsible for it, and progrider had both boards.

When you post on /lounge/, we're doing it in the context of having come from a certain /prog/ in one form or another.
Context of having come from world4ch /lounge/.

/prog/ is basically why this scene is thriving, why this forum more than any other is so active.
Same thing as the other guy said; both boards are pretty much the same activity wise. /prog is only more active because of autistic spam.

Just discuss news here or on lounge who cares. Plus, the more boards you add the more you fragment the userbase.
