In theory:
use linux
cheaper, more reliable and politically correct

Reality:
productivity suffering
unable to share files
Linux much more expensive

Linux is a laptop/tablet OS
So? It's 2016, laptops are what computers are these days, desktops will soon go the way of punched cards and vacuum tubes. Literally the only advantage they have, apart from taking up more space, is that they usually have better cooling - but any software/OS that requires that kind of cooling is horribly inefficient to begin with.

And besides, Linux is better for programming in general than Windows. The only kind of software development Windows is good for is .NET stuff; if you want to program in a language not supported by Botnet Studio you'll be doing it in an emulated GNU environment anyways.

And besides, Windows is horrendously bloated - 25 GB for a Win7 base install; you can have a perfectly usable Linux system with total hard drive space about half of that.
