On the Russian Problem

How much better would the world be if all Russians just mysteriously vanished, never to be seen or heard from again?

Are Russians (and Bulgarians and whoever) a race like Jews, or just an ethnicity like Chinese? I'm not a racialist or anything, just trying to get my head around these things...
