I try to rationalize loss with the knowledge that nothing can last forever, and the futility of fearing the end of things, but every time something/someone significant to me dies the rationalization fails. This also applies to near death experiences of my own. I know it isn't logical to fear my own death, since it will come regardless, but I still experience fear when it is close and that fear dominates my judgement.
