>>1That's a disease alright. You could try antidepressant drugs or transcranial stimulation if you would like it to stop. Unless of course it's situational, in which case digging out is the best way. I knew a guy whose dad died of cancer when he was young and it took him quite a while to be able to interact with others without drinking or (illicit) drugs.
If you are under 20 I would suggest you be careful if you are subscribed antidepressants. I don't know how it is now, but 15 years ago when I was young they were cramming all sorts of experimental shit in us and the internet was not the informative resource it is today. I knew people who had significant negative side effects, including self harm.
Anyway, it doesn't hurt to go through the motions of a happy person. That would be analogous to a peasant revolt in your metaphor. I found acting as if I weren't depressed helped me, although I only had a minor tendency toward depression. I had multiple family members with much worse problems. Prozac and exercise (disgusting exercise) worked best in their cases. Also divorcing my mother did a good job of cheering up my dad. Who knew? And
she left
him!
