The clique of corrupt globalists mooching of 'lesser evil' label for democractic-republican party faction that is nominally pro-labor rights/human rights/etc in theory(when its convenient), but does nothing in practice but promote globohomo 'liberal democracy' lifestyle, aptly named by soviets as 'rotting capitalism'.
Basically think of average corporate executive mooching off talents of his workers to proclaim a grand vision of equality & prosperity from his yacht, detached from reality of working class i.e. 'champagne socialist'(left-wing culturally, right-wing economically).
The major ideological differences with Republicans are
Atheism - Democrats are largely anti-religious due Republicans capturing this niche in 1980's, but for political reasons often support liberal/reformist Christians(Democratic Christianity)
LGBTPoz - Democrats took this as cause celebre of 'human rights'
Welfare - Democrats are basically dependent on welfare for popular support, with minorities largely voting for Democrats due this(despite US welfare being quite modest in first-world)
Environment - Democrats are mostly pro-environment, though their solutions are business-like(carbon tax, subsidies, etc) that allow corporations an escape hatch for money.

The Democratic Leadership Council, the organization that produced such figures as Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Joe Lieberman and Terry McAuliffe, has long been pushing the party to forget blue-collar voters and concentrate instead on recruiting affluent, white-collar professionals who are liberal on social issues. The larger interests that the DLC wants desperately to court are corporations, capable of generating campaign contributions far outweighing anything raised by organized labor. The way to collect the votes and -- more important -- the money of these coveted constituencies, "New Democrats" think, is to stand rock-solid on, say, the pro-choice position while making endless concessions on economic issues, on welfare, NAFTA, Social Security, labor law, privatization, deregulation and the rest of it.
