The Bureau of Land Management closed campgrounds and recreation areas along the river, between the towns of Briceburg and Bagby, on Friday, after receiving test results of water samples downstream from where the family died.

Authorities have ruled out toxic algae as the cause of the mysterious deaths of a northern California family. John Gerrish, Ellen Chung, their daughter Miju, 1, and the family dog were found dead on a hiking trail near Hite’s Cove in the Sierra National Forest. Investigators were looking at whether exposure to chemicals from a nearby mine played a role.

SFgate : toxicology reports not released.
However algal poisoning is unlikely, because they all had to ingest local water. The plot thickens.

And yet, there are no reported human deaths from toxic algae. This is largely due to the fact that adults do not often swallow large amounts of polluted water. Anatoxin also breaks down fairly quickly and easily; it doesn’t stay in tissues very long, according to Weiss. For that reason, he says, he’ll be surprised if anatoxins show up in the toxicology reports for Gerrish and Chung.

Toxic algae has been found in a Yosemite creek and the National Park Service is warning guests it may exist in other spots in Yosemite Valley.

In an Instagram post Friday, the park service said recent tests at the park in Central California yielded positive results for small amounts of the algae, which can have concentrated levels of toxins that are released into the water when the algae dies or is disturbed.

The toxins are known to have harmful effects and are one possible theory in the mysterious death of a family and their dog in the nearby Sierra National Forest last month, near the Highway 140 entrance to Yosemite.

"For your safety, do not enter or drink from Tenaya Creek, which flows from above Mirror Lake to where it enters the Merced River near North Pines Campground," the Park Service post read.

The park service said that some sites may have warning signs up, but guests should remain cautious; they are asked to report any large blooms or algae that is "particularly bright, bubbly, strange-looking, or appears like a haze in the water."

How did the baby died? Sipping groundwater?
The dog is only one that would be likely to drink it.
Toxicology reports on a such a celebrity case would be much faster.
Hiding the reports only increases suspicion something foul is covered up. The whole algae angle is a diversion from something else:
The story makes less sense than Weather Balloons striking down jet fighters.
