When one observes all of the disharmony in the world, the cruelty and pettiness causing so much pointless suffering, it is clear it stems from man's feeling that he has something to gain on Earth. One can trace all pain and suffering back through a chain reaction of a man being hurt/offended, getting retribution by hurting/offending others,and entering into a death-cycle of ever-increasing retribution and eye-for-eye scenarios. Such offense and pain could only be felt when a man feels he is only alive in Earth for this short time and thus must demand respect and comfort while alive. Such a man must not realize that there is eternity at stake, thinking only of hi temporary biological existence. Many develop further neurosis claiming they must "spread their genes" or claiming that a "God" will reward them in heaven if they fight and suppress others on Earth.
Of course, such an attitude is entirely devoid of logic and reason, powered only by biological emotion. Logic and reason will show you that if everybody is desperately trying to suppress others and attain worldly power and "actualize" then the world descends into petty conflict never to arise. For example, seeing the purpose of your life as "spreading genes" often resulting in broken families and broken children as one cannot raise children properly if they are merely an extension of your biological dreams. Tricking and dominating others to gain power generates resentment that will be expressed in unforeseen ways, such as a chain reaction of resentment leading to somebody murdering you on the street. So by attempting to fulfill biological needs one creates a world of danger and constant brutality.
But there is another side to humanity, beyond the animal needs of biology. Logic and reason are part of it, but so is honor, compassion, honesty, and all of the other influencers that provide no material reward until they reach a critical mass and true civilization is formed. What we find is that "God" isn't a father figure but rather it is the "leaking" of higher eternal thought into the temporary biological world. One who lives for honor and compassion, who turns down worldly sensation in favor of nurturing this in himself, can be said to "go to heaven" after death as his spirit (awareness) becomes connected to eternal reality. Those who connect their awareness to the temporary emotional needs of the material can be seen to "go to hell" on death as they lose connection to the eternal entirely and sink into a biological soup of anger and hatred and desire for retribution.
When one understands this, the "meaning of life" becomes clear. You must fight every day to grow eternity inside yourself. Every day you will be faced with attempts to pull you down into the biological soup, every day you must say "no, I am of eternity and I will live and die with love and honor". This is the Struggle that has value, attempts to secure resources and so on are inherently valueless when compared ot eternity. Hopefully you can understand this before you die, but there are always more chances.
