There's a special type of shitty poster on image boards. The kind of person who just discovered Linux (or Guhnoo slash Linucks) last week, and they act like it's the best thing since sliced bread -- not for a server or IoT use case, but for a desktop OS. Then they post a screenshot that makes it apparent that they don't use their computer for anything more than a browser, basic word processing, and some cross-platform electron apps. Then they act like anyone who doesn't use it as their daily driver desktop OS must be too dumb to figure it out. Buddy, anybody can install Debian. Shit's easy as fuck. But commercial support for industry standard software is straight up garbage. GIMP is nowhere near as good as Photoshop. LibreOffice can be buggy so I'd rather use Office 365. vim is not as good as a real IDE like from JetBrains or some shit.
Sure, I'll always run Linux on my servers. But as a desktop distro? Fuck that.
Man, I've been using Linux in some form or another since 2007. But you know what? I'm not gonna use it as my primary laptop OS ever again. I use a Kali VM for security labs, or a LAMP or MEAN VM for web development (though I'll probably replace them with docker containers eventually), but why on earth would you use it as your primary productivity OS on a personal computer rather than a server?
But these newbies suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect so they assume anyone else is either as new as they are, or even less experienced. But any seasoned veterans who aren't change-averse boomers know that Linux distros are inferior aside from ``muh privacy'' and costing $0. But I'd rather pay the Apple tax for a MacBook so I can use macOS Mojave instead of some half-assed buggy DE and a package manager full of generic brand apps. I can even install Linux on it if I really want to, but whats the point? Shit sucks.
