Something interesting: NPCs are really good at immersion(even if the immersion of the game is really bad), i notice they're like hypnotized by a good game/movies - not really present in real life, but believing they are part of the game.
Are videogames serving as their programming?
If their emotional responses build such deep and profound changes in memory, does playing reinforce these patterns?
This would explain videogame addiction where people neglect real-life tasks and even drinking enough water(like those dead korean Starcraft fans that played for days). If NPC real-life need of drinking enough water is suppressed by immersion in the game, building more virtual tanks is literally more important than survival - because the NPC is completely under game programming.
