Android sucks

Name: Anonymous 2018-07-24 14:01

My old iPhone was physically falling apart, so I decided to get a new phone, which I am using to post right now. My friend recommended this one Android phone, so I got it. I didn't have the cash for a new iPhone anyway, and I wanted to show my friend that I respect his recommendations and opinions. Big mistake.

The keyboard sucks ass. The built-in bloatware that you can't remove sucks ass. The touch screen isn't as precise as my old iPhone. The screen randomly turns on even when I am not touching it. I get notifications from the annoying built-in app that you apparently can't disable. And guess what? It has a slightly older version of Android and it won't get new versions. It will get security fixes for a while, supposedly, bit it will never get any Android release past Oreo. Outdated software on a brand new phone. And yeah, there is an SD card slot, but you can't store everything on it, so it's not as useful as it sounds. Some things can only use the internal storage. Lastly, there is a lot of malwsre for Android, and even in the app store there is less vetting compared to what Apple does, this keyboard lagged for a few seconds as I was writing this holy shit, becsusd Google has worse wuality control. Also the autocrrcg is not as good. And since it's Google it's probably sending all my data to their servers to be data mined. Also the night light filter thing on iOS is better than the one for Android. It's like f.lux but for mobile, forgot the exact name.

At least it has all the same apps I used on iOS. But it's still an inferior experience. The only better thing compared to iOS is being able to use Termux.

People liek to criticize Apple becsud of their prices, but man, this Android phone sucks ass.

I'm an city-dwelling software developer CS student with a social life and lots of events/groups that I'm a part of, not some rural boomer. It's impossible for me to stay connected without some form of pocket computer, whether it's an iPhone or Android. Sure, you could do a lot of what I do on a laptop or desktop. But they're not as portable. The whole point of a phone is to do this stuff on the go. The internet is everywhere now, not just confined to a desk. I can't check group chats with a laptop when I'm walking. Some apps I use don't even have desktop equivalents. Use my phone to take pics of social gatherings too. Important for clout. Payment apps. Lots of other shit too. Texts, emails, social media apps, Google calendar (getting lunch with people, meetings, appointments, going out drinking), Google maps (I go to new places I've never been quite often), etc. I am far from a social butterfly but even I have at least some connections.

How can you seriously ask someone why they use a phone in 2018? Are you living under a rock?

And yes, rooting is less secure. Is the rooting exploit open source or proprietary? If the rooting method can do privilege escalation on your phone, what else can? If you opt out of software updates and wait until a root method for it, you are making your phone vulnerable to CVEs. If you root your phone, isn't that like tunning as root all the time in Linux instead of only doing it when you need to? And if your phone gets compromised and it's rooted, an attacker can do far more than if it's not rooted/jailbroken.

Why root your phone? So you can play some pirated app or change some aesthetics with some config file? Why? That's it? Not worth the risks. My phone has my payment info and password manager on it. Not gonna risk fucking it up or getting pwned.
