Where do you see yourself in 10 years? How about 20?

To have long-term plans, you have to have luxury of living in a stable, predictable world. Most people can't afford that.

Its not chess. Long-term you can imagine plans and ideas, but you'll need adjustments to reality. A good plan is to do the least work for most benefit - at worst you wasted a few days of work, at best you got the benefit. No point at slaving away for years in hopes of reaching the imaginary goal.

Being that naive was confined to children, thinking of their career and future life in the certainty of medical diagnosis. But no, autists had to pretend their life has to revolve around great plans, perfect sequences of events and adhere to a ruleset they invented for the plan. They're greatly disappointed when their chessmastery doesn't meet the goal and they can't adapt to the new circumstances.

They simply believe that like a religious conviction, any doubt will doom the perfect sequence, the great plan and force them to start from step one. They'd not accustomed to adapt and improvise, feeling like fish out of water when world doesn't work as they expect it to perform - their world exists entirely in their head, along with these great plans. Some can't accept their great plan being unreachable fantasy, so they double down and end up losing their sanity, their imagined plans blown away by unexpected events and circumstances.
