Were textboards ever good?

I used to think maybe textboards sounded cool in the past, memes, milkribs, and lots of laughs. But now, I'm thinking they were actually gay and not cool from the start.

That's the only reason w4c was successful, though. Joot had links to the textboards on the imagereddits which gave lots of life to it.
