Symta/Symcraft: Help Needed

Name: Anonymous 2014-10-20 16:38

As you probably know, I'm designing a programming language called Symta.

Symta is a dialect of Lisp with some extended list processing capabilities. To test Symta's design, I have implemented an old school RTS game Warcraft 2 in Symta ( http://postimg.org/image/imnbbp1hd/ ).

I'm running OSX. so I would appreciate help of someone with a real windows box to run it to see if it executes at all. You can help by posting result and your windows version.

Also, Symta is non-commercial project under BSD license. So that you know.

Won't run on 32 bit Windows. Will run it on 64 bit Windows when I get to work.

Nope. I've no plans supporting 32bit archs. Even Android and iOS devices are moving to 64bit today, so 64bit everywhere appears to be a valid assumption.

Don't worry Nikita-chan, I just wanted to try if it'll run on 32 bit builds. It didn't and I don't really care.

I'm just surprised people still use 32bit systems.

XP is still very popular in third world countries.

What version of Windows? Did it had latency problems? SDL under emulation did some strange things.

you should run windows in a vm. Or test it with wine. Does that work on os x now?

My VM setup is messy and has stuff like cygwin installed, so I'm unsure if a clean Windows has all the necessary stuff. I know mingw and cygwin require different runtimes.

OSX has a port of Wine, called CrossOver, which doesn't support 64-bit executables.

3rd world countries pirate latest and greatest.
It's the 1st world countries who are stuck with obsolete software (Canada, I'm looking at you)

You can't pirate hardware, while Windows is relatively cheap in 3rd world, because Microsoft bases price politics on local income.

The most pirated software is Photoshop, because it has huge price tag, yet everyone wants good graphics editor.

Cheap is relative, It might be cheaper than some pompous Apple shit, but is still expensive enough.

He did say relatively cheap

You can pirate hardware. Never had a batch of mobos with exploding caps?

Name: Anonymous 2014-10-24 14:15

That isn't piracy. Just low quality components and scam.

As I recall, it was actually a case of failed industrial espionage, got the dielectric formula wrong.

Still pirating something like PlayStation 4 would make no sense, because Sony subsidizes the hardware and makes money selling games.
