Why does the west do that? To cut the Japan from a food source and force to import.

About 150 years ago, the Japanese encountered the people called Americans, who eat cow meat. They required Japan to open its ports to foreign countries and began whaling at the sea off Japan. They also brought the culture of eating cow meat to the vegetarian country of East Asia. Many of the Japanese at first regarded eating cows as barbarous and somewhat immoral, yet they didn't refuse to serve beef to the foreigners in Japan who wanted to eat it. Gradually some of the Japanese started eating beef as well, and it finally became a symbol of Japan's westernization. Now this is well known as the beginning of Sukiyaki.
Today, the situation is totally opposite. Western countries call Japan barbaric because of its whaling and dolphin hunts. Japan has accepted and adopted the whole different food culture from the west, but Western countries never accept any from Japan except some of which were just to their taste. The Japanese allowed foreigners to eat cows in Japan, but some foreigners don't even overlook the Japanese eating whale/dolphin meat in its own territory. Sigh, Food Imperialism still goes on...
