I'm glad the Japanese took control of their characters more. Japanese Tails is a better character than American version IMHO.
I especially like Naito Ohshima's headcanon of tails (as seen on his twitter). He's the creator of Sonic and Sonic is his headcanon; so maybe... the claims about Sonic 2 are actually true. (Note: I got swatted by Zoomers for discussing tails with a fellow millenial (and the zoomers then walked into the chat and were mad): they really don't believe in freedom of speech do they?) Should Sonic save Nine from the hell of the Fox's own making?
In some escatology hell is the absence of God. Nine is completely isolated and alone; clearly loves Sonic: but now is forever locked in a prison of one.
Should Sonic fix this? And bring Nine to green-hill prime, and visit every other day? And the other days visit Tails, and once every 11th day visit Amy, as per the ratios in Naito Ohshima's twitter feed?
Japanese Tails is not a better character—they’ve screwed him up plenty in recent takes like everyone else.

And yes that is not a "Myth" as people say it is now. A government project. In supreme court jursiprudence it can be found that government services are required to follow the Federal constitution. But I was there when Sonic 2 was released. Tails was intended to be a girl no matter how much ret-conning has occured.

Wrong again. 8-bit Sonic 2 is definitly a prequel: It was released a month earlier for a reason. It is the part of the japanese kitsune lore where the protaginist saves the kitsune's life: and then the kitsune is forever loyal to it's savior.
You cite the manuals which are just printed lies after the fact: instead of doing what the Japanese actually do: which is look at the thing that was created itself, and the symbology in the piece of art they are beholding:
1) Sonic 2 original design documents internally call for a girl character (same design documents as Sonic CD).
2) Sonic originally was intended to have a woman character Maddona chasing after him everywhere according to Naito Ohshima: the actual creator of Sonic.
3) Bangs: Both amy and tails have bangs in the 16 bit sprite: as both are decendant from that same female-character dictat. Bangs are the way they showed they were girls. Later this was ret-conned. But it is what it is.
4) In Sonic 2, there is symbology present that the Japanese see immediatly. One example of this is in Casino Night zone:
Tail's symbol is the moon. Sonic's symbol is the star. The moon means female in Japanese mythology. You can look it up.
5) 狐の嫁入り at the end of Sonic 2. Kitsune no yomeiri: a procession of animals follows which is very similar to the "Fox's Wedding" in Japanese myth, visually. Japanese viewers would pick up on this. They would not tell the Gajin. Tails is for the Japanese: not americans (Eggman is their depiction of an american, and it's not pleasant)
6) During that, a love song plays that was specifically commissioned for the Sonic 2 game. It was not a pre-existing song. It was made for Sonic 2 and signed off on by the whole staff. It was released concurrently on CD the same day that Sonic 2 was released. The band had Sonic on it's tour bus. It is told from Tail's Point of View. Here's what Tails has to say:

As an aside: Recently* it came out that Michael Jackson was indeed involved in Sonic 3 development. The Japanese even went to his house in furthurance of this endeavour. SEGA, and it's employees (JP), had lied about it for decades.

What you need to consider is that the Japanese neither like, nor respect, the Gajin. During Sonic 2 development, the Japanese developers who were sent over, regarded the honest hard working americans as "baka Gajin": in literal terms: "Stupid Foreigner": but it is much more offensive than that: connotating that the "foreigner" is not even part of the species of Man.

Concurrently also: the CD with the ending song is released in Japanese in Japan. This song was specifically written for Sonic 2 and is told from Tail's perspective. It wouldn't be translated to english for years.
You play the game. A happy, nice, cute, big triangle eared fox is always at your beck and call. Sonic, the epitomie of Japanese Samauri **Yoeshi Spirit (**Naito Oshima's claim (creator of Sonic)) stoicly go about your business of the destruction of the American Scientist's creations. (americans are usualy portrayed with giant noses in japanese media): bringing revenge against the Occupier for their irreverance for the nature of your Islands. A rebellion against what the Japanese consider the Devil and Eternal Enemy (USA): though they will claim otherwise. There is a desire, still, to "win the war by other means" Eventually, as Sonic, you make it to Casino Night Zone. On the walls there are tiles spinning around, There's Sonic, it spins, and shows a Star. But what is here near Sonic? On the wall? Tails. This tile then spins around: a symbol appears The Crecent Moon.
The symbol for Tails is the Crecent moon. A call back to the first piece of Japanese Fiction: The Moon Princess.
Eventually, Sonic defeats the evil American Scientific Overlord; atleast on this one Island. But a problem arises: Sonic has effectivly sacrificed himself as he plummets through the atmosphere to certain death: and beyond that damnation (for American belief still rules over Japan) The little fox sees this; jumps into action; and flies Sonic's plane up into the sky: praying to the Shinto Gods, Demons, and Spirits that Sonic can be caught in time. The Fox achieves this.

Let us take into consideration another thing: Thigh Gap Blaze the Cat. Tails has as big a thigh gap as Blaze the Cat. Enough to push out a baby.
The characters of Sonic, Knux, and all undoubtedly male characters have a small thigh gap, and a V shaped torso. The female characters have a big thigh gap and not a V shaped torso. Tails has just as big a thigh gap and has a round torso.
So when you see Tails, and Hear Tails 1) Visually your brain sees that gap and is like "yep" 2) You hear a womans voice.
Additionally Tails is put in domestic situations: Tails washes Sonics laundry all the time (Tails Tube), and makes him food all the time (Tails Tube).
Why? Likely because Naito Ohshima's head canon, as revealed on his twitter feed; is being respected. In Naito Ohshima's head canon: the fox is in "situations" with Sonic about 2 times per day; and is with amy about one tenth of that. Naito Ohshima is the creator of Sonic: sonic is his head canon.
Thus out of Respect: more recently Tails has been put into situations which would meet the approval of the creator of Sonic.
Eye Colour: Again in the redesign: Sonic was given a Green eye colour. Tails was given a light blue eye colour.
What does this mean? Why did the Japanese do this? Originally Naito Oshima envisioned Sonic as a more fierce looking creature: more unhinged; more Michael Jackson's Thriller like. Fangs, more spikes. Liking of Human Women (Madonna).
Sonic is now a "green eyed monster" to Tails "doe eyed" supplicant.

Currently nine lives in a hell: alone. Sonic, before knowing the existance of his friends in "ghost" "green-hill zone" was elated to know Nine. Sonic also was willing to go alone to Nine's world to stay with Nine forever. Showing that was perferable to him than being with the rest of the gang but without (a version of) Tails the Fox.
Now: we saw that the entire Prime saga happened in the blink of an eye. It's been a few seconds from that till the ending credits. How many years has Nine lived alone?

Sonic came out in 1991. Those of us who were 5 or 6 years old then are 40. So are the characters of a similar age.
